Who was Delbert Fotter?

His character and spirit embody the kind of Maine personality which we like to portray in the store bearing his name.

Here is his story.

Reynold, Barry, Delbert and Kenneth (from left to right)

Delbert was born in Stratton in 1890. He started the grocery business at the age of 21 in the employ of two other men. When one gave up his part in the business, Delbert went into the company, and then the store was sold in 1924. He then began work in the mill in Stratton as a shipping clerk until 1932, when he returned to the grocery business again.

He invested every last nickle he had and brought the store. He remodeled the store, which was originally a barn.

Delbert worked in the store with his sons, Reynold and Kenneth. The store supplied the families of the area and several lumber and summer camps.

Delbert is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Fotter. His father died when he was only six. Delbert and his wife Abbie had five grand children, Barry and Ronnie sons of Reynold and Marian, and Mary Ellen, Sandra and Kenneth (Cubby), children of Kenneth and Elva.

Delbert attended Stratton schools and was very fond of his hometown. He was a founding member of the Stratton/Eustis Lions Club.

Barry joined the team in ?? The store is still a family affair with Barry, Kenneth (Cubby), Sue (his wife) and Katie, Delbert's great-grand daughter.

Following Delberts lead they are all very active in community organizations and a proud sponsor of Family Fun Days.

Please ask any of us or our employees if you can't find that item you want. We'll probably have a story to tell also.
